I am having the cd rom but the is there difference between the writer and cd rom ? What are the formats for the audio file ? why we should able to write the cd or to store the songs if they are in mp3 format but when they are in simple audio format the less number of songs can be write on the cd what is the reason ?

There really is almost no difference, if you are talking about a 5th generation ipod. The only difference there is that some players will be a bit more lenient with the codec they allow you to encode your video/audio in.
